Drawing on the noble tradition of classical still life painting, Charles Negre has created a strikingly contemporary series of still lives captured on the streets of Paris after the closure of its markets. Taking his camera out of the studio and into public space, he photographs discarded objects exactly as he finds them—examining how these mundane, disposable subjects are transformed through visual framing.

Blending advertising codes with elements of shock and humour, Negre constructs images that make urgent themes, such as food waste and overconsumption, visible. His lens reframes overlooked remnants of daily life, imbuing them with new meaning and unexpected beauty.
