As the scope of IACK’s activities and work outside the store has gradually expanded, we are now seeking a Store Assistant to support our day-to-day shop operations.
The position is expected to begin in August 2026 with approximately three working days per month. Depending on operational needs and mutual agreement, there may be opportunities to increase the number of working days in the future.
Responsibilities
- Customer service and sales
- Gift wrapping and packaging
- Opening preparations (cleaning and checking displays)
- Opening and closing procedures (locking and unlocking the store)
As you become familiar with the role, you may also be asked to assist with tasks outside the shop floor, such as packing online orders and checking newly arrived books.
On some days, you may be responsible for operating the shop independently.
You are not expected to know the contents of every book. It is perfectly acceptable if you are unable to answer a customer’s question.
Typical Working Day
10:30 – Arrive and prepare the store
11:00 – Store opens
14:00–15:00 – Break (you are free to leave the premises)
18:00 – Store closes / Finish work
There is no overtime after closing.
Working Schedule
Approximately three working days per month, mainly on weekends (subject to change depending on operational needs).

Working days will be arranged through mutual consultation.
Training
Training will be scheduled according to your availability and will take place through actual day-to-day store operations.
Training days are treated as regular paid working days.
Employment Conditions
Hourly Wage: ¥1,300
(¥1,200 during the trial period, which includes the first ten working days, including training)
Transportation Allowance: Actual expenses reimbursed, up to ¥500 per day
Employee discount available on store purchases
Contract Period: August–December 2026
Any extension of the contract beyond this period will be discussed and decided by mutual agreement.

- Has an interest in IACK and in photobooks or art books
- Is curious about a wide range of subjects beyond books and photography
- Is comfortable working independently
- Has good manners and communication skills
- Enjoys interacting with people thoughtfully
No specialist knowledge is required. We simply ask that you are willing to learn through your work.
More important than expertise in photography or photobooks is the ability to communicate with customers in a thoughtful and considerate manner. We welcome applicants who can respond to each visitor individually rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.
