Another and Another and Another Act of Seeing (Urban Space)
An exhibition catalogue exploring how artists have looked at and worked with the city across photography and contemporary art.
Another & Another & Another Act of Seeing (Urban Space) was published on the occasion of the three-part exhibition of the same title held at deSingel in Antwerp, Belgium, between 1994 and 1997. The exhibition focused on how contemporary artists direct their gaze toward the city and how urban space is approached through artistic practice. Bringing together figures ranging from classical photographers such as Eadweard Muybridge and Eugène Atget to contemporary artists including Peter Fischli & David Weiss, Julian Opie, Thomas Ruff and Nobuyoshi Araki, the publication offers a broad and layered view of how the city has been observed, interpreted and represented.
Featuring thirty-three artists in total, the catalogue traces multiple ways of seeing urban space across different generations and contexts. It stands not only as a document of the exhibition, but also as a substantial survey of visual approaches to the city at a moment when photography, architecture and contemporary art were increasingly intersecting.
