Saturated Light by Wolfgang Tillmans

This is a collection of works by photographer Wolfgang Tillmans, who is still fresh in our memories for his "2020Solidarity" campaign held last year to support cultural facilities affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

This book focuses on the abstract photography series "Silver," which Tillmans has been working on for nearly 30 years. It is so abstract that those who see it for the first time may not think it is a photograph. This work was created in a darkroom by directly exposing photographic paper to light and photosensitive emulsion, without actually taking pictures with a camera. The impact of these experiments, which boldly expanded the traditional technique of creating photographs in a darkroom without a camera, on later generations is immeasurable.

Compared to abstract painting, abstract photography has a stronger chemical/optical aspect, and because we have the assumption that a photograph is a record, it is interesting that it takes advantage of the illusion that sometimes we see a landscape or some kind of image in a photograph where there is nothing in it.

For those who are interested in Tillmans, please check out the collection of his works "Today Is The First DayI also recommend this book. It portrays Tillmans not only as a photographer, but also as a stage director, musician, and activist, and as an artist who continues to seriously engage with society and art. It's a large volume and reasonably priced, which is nice.

Außenprojekte / Projects For Outsideby Isa Genzken

This is a collection of works by German artist Isa Genzken.

Genzken studied art at universities in Hamburg and Berlin, then went on to the Düsseldorf Art Academy, where Joseph Beuys, Gerhard Richter, Bernd and Hilla Becher, and Benjamin HD Buchloh taught. He made his debut with a minimalist style, but later changed to a more dynamic style using a variety of media.

This book comprehensively introduces all 42 of Genzken's outdoor sculptures, including sketches, collages, and drawings made prior to the actual production stage, as well as a wealth of photographs documenting the installation of the works.

In fact, Genzken and Tillmans have a relationship, and in 2001 they created a collaborative installation at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, Germany. Although their titles are different, their attitudes toward society and their sense of scale seem to share something in common. Please come and see these artists who go beyond the framework of sculpture and attempt to communicate with society through their artworks.

Assemblage 6, Unlearning By Faye Toogood

This is a collection of works by Faye Toogood, a British artist/designer and co-founder of the fashion brand Toogood.

This book features approximately 300 models of chairs, lamps, stools, sofa beds, and more, made from everyday materials found in Toogood's studio, such as wire, cardboard, tape, and canvas. What ideas were born and then discarded before the actual works were completed? This book follows the ideas that were embodied in their purest form and traces the artist's behind-the-scenes trial and error.

My first impression was that it was simply interesting to flip through the pages. It seems to ask whether the final product is everything, or whether the concept and the process leading up to it are also the work. It's also a good book to use as a source of ideas.

In terms of process, I am based in Oslo.Collection of works by Sveinn Fannar JóhannssonAs an object, it reminds me of Cy Twombly.SculptureI felt something similar.

Multiples, Inc. 1965-1992

"Multiples, Inc." was an art publishing company founded in 1965 by five people, including Marian Goodman, who currently runs the Marian Goodman Gallery as a gallerist. For nearly 30 years, from 1966 until its dissolution in 1992, it published editions of the most important artists of the 20th century and continued to have a major impact on the art world. This book was published in conjunction with the exhibition "MULTIPLES, INC. Artists & Photographs" held at the Marian Goodman Gallery in New York.

This is a highly recommended book for those who are interested in the idea of a "collection of works as a work of art" and artist books. I would like to introduce this book in another article if I have the opportunity.

"The 1960s was the era of the multiple work. Works of art were not considered unique, but rather in multiple editions created using new materials and modern manufacturing techniques. Edition publishing allowed for low-cost and democratic distribution of artworks, and allowed a wider audience to hear what was going on in the art world. While not all of the many publishers that emerged from the United States and Europe in the 1960s continued to operate for the long term, Multiples, Inc. survived the rise of new media and produced more and more editions in the 1970s and 1980s. This book contains a complete list of all editions published by Multiples, Inc., as well as numerous documents showing its long history. Edited and written by Swiss curator Dieter Schwarz."(Excerpt from distributor commentary)
