The Invisible Journey by Julien Berthier
A collection of works by French artist Julien Berthier.
In 2021, Berthier was invited by French artist Thomas Mayländer to spend a residency at the Tuna Club in Calanques National Park, south of Marseille. There, the artist attached a rock sculpture made from the same resin as the hull to an old boat, creating a mobile work in honor of the site. When the boat was set afloat on the sea, it blended into the scenery of the scenic spot. In this work, which continues to explore the landscape, the rock boat is similarly incorporated into various postcards. Intentionally choosing a rough composition technique, Berthier hand-cut the image of the boat and glued it directly onto the postcard. His rock boat thus set sail on a journey through different places and times, accompanying the travelogues of strangers.
