AKPE

A photo book by Swedish photographer Anders Edström.

This book was produced by reconstructing photographs that Edström, then just 20 years old, had taken in and around the Swedish city of Enköping.

"The photos in this book are the very first ones I ever took. I took them in the small town where I lived after my military service. I had just turned 20. My mother taught me how to develop and print film. When I saw the first prints coming out of the developer, I was immediately hooked. I knew right away that this was what I wanted to do. I grew up looking at my parents' photos. They were both good amateur photographers. And also at home in photo books. So when I started taking photos myself, I was already thinking about what photography was. I was thinking right from the beginning about how I could do something different from what I had already seen. I wanted to be original, but I didn't know how. Anyway, I went for drives and walks and just tried different things. I lived in a boring town where there was nothing, nothing happening, and I thought there was nothing to shoot. But I was lucky, because I was forced to create something from a place that seemed like nothing." - Anders Edström
