Ruches, 2400 A.E.C. - 1852 E.C. / Hives, 2400 B.C.E. - 1852 C.E. by Aladin Borioli (APIAN)
A collection of works by APIAN, a DIY humanities research project led by artist Aladdin Boglioli.
Since the development of the modern honeybeehive in 1852, the structure of the hive has not changed significantly. The standardized box-type hive brought stability to beekeeping, but at the same time, it also removed the structural diversity that had developed over 4,400 years. This small book traces the history of homogenized pre-modern beekeeping back to 2400 BC. Through 375 photographs and illustrations, the reader is given a glimpse into the history of small-scale architecture developed for non-human organisms.
