Preston is My Paris 2009-2019 by Adam Murray and Robert Parkinson

Dashwood Books

A collection of works by UK-based photographer, curator and lecturer Adam Murray and fellow UK-based photographer Robert Parkinson.

This documentary follows the ten-year journey of the project PRESTON IS MY PARIS, which began in 2009. It examines the decade of independent production to explore themes such as everyday life, local identity, and the role of photography and culture in places far from major urban centers. In July 2009, the pair began the project with a zine printed on a photocopier to promote their work, focusing on Preston, England. Ten years later, the project, which is rooted in the medium of photography, has expanded in many ways to include publications, site-specific installations, live events, digital apps, education, and writing.

Murray was the teacher of photographer Jamie Hawkesworth, whose signature work, Preston Bus Station, was commissioned to take a portrait for a free paper that was then being produced as part of the Preston Is My Paris project.
