Portrait Chrsitine Furuyagobler 1978-1985 by Seiichi Furuya
This is a collection of works produced in conjunction with Furuya's solo exhibition "Portrait," held at the Church of Saint-Trophime as part of the 2000 Arles International Photography Festival.
Unlike the "Mémoires" series, this book focuses on Christine's portraits, with portraits of her taken between 1978 and 1985 arranged quietly in a composition that makes use of the white space. Furuya's website tells the story of how the works were stolen while they were being transported by car to an exhibition in Ljubljana, Slovenia in 2002, and how a petition calling for their return was widely featured in the local press.
