MACK

A collection of works by Norwegian photographer Torbjørn Rødland.

This book, Rhodland's fifth collection, includes photographs taken in Oslo, Tokyo, Beijing, and Los Angeles. Direct yet idiosyncratic, it inherits the characteristics of Rodland's work that pushes the boundaries of aesthetics and social norms. Combining images with a fetishistic sense of isolation. Neither the humanistic realism of the photographic portraiture genre nor the postmodern division of roles is embraced by this work, which explores the cultural complexities and archaic foundations of contemporary image-making. The title of this book raises questions about the ambiguity of the relationship between artists and their media, whether they accept the premise of the medium of photography as a straight record, or whether they think they are governed by it. ing. Many of the images also have explicit political references related to the 1980 US presidential election.
