You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) by Lewis Chaplin
A photobook by Lewis Chaplin, co-founder of the independent publisher "Loose Joints", published in 2010.
You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) features new work produced in 2010. By combining original photographic works with found texts and objects, Chaplin juxtaposes his own imagery with decontextualised materials, generating dialogues and narratives between disparate and contrasting elements.
The book was highly acclaimed by the British Journal of Photography and selected as one of the best photobooks of 2010 by Photo-Eye, a renowned American photography gallery and bookshop. In September of the same year, it was also presented as a notable example of self-publishing during a talk hosted by The Photographers’ Gallery at the Whitechapel Art Book Fair in London.
Fourteen-Nineteen, the original publisher of the book, was an independent imprint founded by Lewis Chaplin and Alex F. Webb while they were still in their teens. The book reflects the spirit of the late 2000s wave of self-publishing and the early stirrings of the contemporary photobook movement.
