TEST by Laura Bielau
A collection of works by German artist Laura Bielow.
In this book, Laura Bielau explores the interconnectedness of all living things, the shared needs of humans and animals, and the trade-off between cooperation and self-interest. To do so, the author visited research facilities for behavioral biology, plant genetics, and viral diseases. She visited a Baltic island where the genetic material of the last recently deceased Northern White Rhino bull is kept, a primate center where monkeys are used in research, a crop and plant genetics laboratory where seedlings are made resistant to climate change under artificially harsh environmental conditions, a waste dump, and a protest camp. Bielau also took many outdoor photographs, including urban nests and shelters, and a summer fire near the A9 motorway in Brandenburg. Finally, she focuses on the representation of creatures and habitats in literature, advertising, and computer games, and their connections to political propaganda.
