In Search of Appropriate Images by Mattia Balsamini
A collection of works by Italian photographer Mattia Balsamini.
This book features a series of works that Balsamini produced while looking back at past photographs and his own archives, as he was forced to spend most of his day in his studio due to the effects of COVID-19. The process is recreated by using a special structure that divides the works into two blocks.
"This body of work began around the beginning of March 2020. I felt the urge to learn something during the time interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. For me, my hometown and the land around it have always been a mysterious combination of the known and the unknown. The most comfortable way to explore the environment is usually to take both of these aspects into account: looking close and looking far. Little by little. These photographs were made in a difficult and surreal situation, when we still had no certainty that we would be alive a year from now. It was like an exercise to train the eye and to find some meaning in the objects, atmospheres and ideas that had always attracted me." - Mattia Balsamini
First edition of 750 copies.
