The warmth of life that Erik Gustafson captures, sometimes extraordinarily ordinary, sometimes tender and intimate, other times profound and complex, is digested and incorporated into the image during the darkroom print-making process. The cycle of shooting, printing, failing, bending the rules, repeating, and scanning repeats throughout his process, speaking to a permanent and enduring reality in which the incomplete images can later be altered, manipulated, and overwritten.
