Crimean Snobbism by Boris Mikhailov

Rat Hole Gallery

A collection of works by Ukrainian photographer Boris Mikhailov.

Boris Mikhailov started taking photographs as a hobby in 1965 while working as an engineer. This book features photos taken during a summer spent in the Crimean Peninsula in 1982. It was a time when people were far from free, but his wife Vita and friends who appear in the photos seem to be enjoying their freedom more than anyone else, conveying a different image of Ukraine at that time from the stereotype. It was published in conjunction with Mikhailov's solo exhibition held at the Rat Hole Gallery in Japan in 2007.
