Blumen by Collier Schorr

SteidlMACK

A photo book by American photographer Collier Shore.

For thirteen years, Shore has been working in southern Germany, working on documentary fiction about small towns inhabited by historical apparitions. For her, the German landscape is a map of her own history, both imagined and inherited. Instead of portraits, Shore has chosen to search for and construct arrangements in the townscapes and domestic and commercial environments she has explored. The figures in the works are merely props to examine how objects and nature create dialogue within the communities they contain. Flowers are uprooted and become performers in the landscape. Signs, plums, chairs and a plaster fawn are part of the object forms that are moved and combined to further depict the daily life of the townspeople of Schwäbisch Gmünd. This book is the second volume of the Wald und Wiesen (Woods and Fields) series, which explores the interwoven stories of place and time determined by memory, nationalism, war, migration and family. Although each volume has the same format, each is designed as an independent and individual work.
