Bewerber - The Applicants by Jens Klein

A collection of works by German photographer Jens Klein.

When the German student mutual aid association Evangelisches Studienwerk Villigst asked the author to create an image book, he decided to start by looking at the application forms that over 8,000 scholarship recipients have submitted since the 1950s, along with their analog passport photos. The book contains 176 photos of successful scholarship applicants from applications dating from 1950 to 2012. The photos show how the medium has changed over the years: from black and white to color, from analog to digital, from time-consuming shots in a photo studio to quick shots taken with a passport camera. In 2012 the association introduced an online application process, putting an end to the era of analog photography.
