Dark Rooms by Nigel Shafran
A collection of works by British photographer Nigel Shafran.
"Supermarket checkouts" features products flowing on the conveyor belt at supermarket cash registers; "Paddington escalators" features a sideways shot of people going down an escalator; the somewhat melancholy "Mobility shops" series of nursing care stores; "Mother's work" features artworks that Shafran's mother was making at home; and "Packages" documents empty containers piling up in the kitchen. The book unfolds calmly, with scenes from Shafran's home inserted at key points in these seemingly unrelated series. While this book is a collection of five of Shafran's unpublished series, it is also superbly edited to be a new work in its own right.
