CHROMA by Eva Nielsen

RVB Books

A collection of works by French-Danish visual artist Eva Nielsen.

Eva Nielsen has developed a hybrid practice that explores the boundaries between painting and photography, exploring the possibilities of their interpenetrating affinities. Her works combine and layer traditional painting and silkscreen techniques. From the outskirts of towns and cities to barren natural landscapes or liminal spaces, she brings together landscape and architectural elements in a succession of strata, evoking the mechanisms of sedimentation that have brought about the territorial fragments they represent. As the sixth artist selected for the LVMH Métiers d'Art artist-in-residence program, Nielsen will be setting up a studio for six months on the grounds of Les Tanneries Roux, a long-established leather processing factory in Romans-sur-Isère, France. As a result, Nielsen has given her work a new substance, successfully representing two completely contrasting materials, leather and silk, on the same surface. During the residency, she was also able to take advantage of the know-how of the silkscreen expert atelier Twinpix. As a result, a new work was born out of the geographical setting of the residence, with the Isère River and the Vercors Mountains on its doorstep.
