A photobook exploring, with irony, our desire to arrive at universal truth and the paradox of its impossibility.

Truth Study Center is a photobook by German photographer Wolfgang Tillmans. Spanning images that move from sensual nude studies to astronomical photographs of Venus transiting the sun, the book traverses intimate, scientific and cosmic registers alike. In doing so, it reflects on the tension between private experience and systems of knowledge, while quietly questioning the frameworks through which images are made to signify truth.

Situated within Tillmans’s practice before his full transition to digital image-making, the publication also opens onto a more fundamental inquiry into photography itself: how photographs are read as truth, as information, or as evidence. Edited by Tillmans himself, Truth Study Center remains a significant and increasingly scarce title.
