Yerevan 1996/1997 by Ursula Schulz-Dornburg

MACK

A collection of works by German photographer Ursula Schulz-Dornburg.

Schultz-Dornburg has produced a wide variety of works throughout her career, presenting documentary photographs of man-made objects and their environments that most prominently reflect social change. Most of the areas she visits are remote and often difficult to access. In 1996 and 1997, she traveled Armenia with a compact camera, photographing the remains of Soviet architecture while strolling through the capital Yerevan. After returning home, she developed these films, and in 2001 she pasted her photos into traditional notebooks used in Armenian schools, which she bought locally. This handmade sketchbook is a gift to her daughter Julia, who was studying her architecture at the time.

This book is a copy of that sketchbook, and records the history of cultural artifacts and the actions of the artist who explored them while recording/collecting these materials.
