Exposure by Kazuma Obara
A collection of works by Japanese photographer, Obara Kazuma.
This work, which follows on from his previous work capturing the images of the victims of the Pacific War, contains photographs taken over two years in Ukraine, the site of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster. The box set contains three books: "Exposure," which was shot using negative film that had been left in Ukraine after being exposed to radiation in the womb and suffered from thyroid disease; "Everlasting," which captures a young couple who were born and raised in Slavutych, a newly built town for workers cleaning up after the nuclear accident, and who work as workers there; and reproductions of newspapers from the time of the disaster.

"I want to think about the future
I began covering the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in June 2011, and met 18-year-old workers who had just graduated from high school. Some of them later got married, had children, and started new families. Watching their children, and now that I am a father of two myself, I felt a strong desire to think about future generations who will inherit the legacy of this accident.
What will the nuclear accident leave behind for the future, and how will it be passed on? I hope that this photo exhibition will provide an opportunity to think about our present and the future. Kazuma Ohara
