Migrations, Cherbourg by Alexandre Guirkinger
The 18 landscape photographs included in this book were taken in October 2020 through a photography workshop organized by French photographer Alexandre Girkinguel and the art center and publishing house Le Point du Jour in collaboration with the non-profit organization Itinérance. The workshop was attended by six immigrants who recently settled in Cherbourg, a port city located at the tip of the Cotentin Peninsula jutting out into the English Channel in northwestern France, and who are supported by Itinérance. Ahmad Aghadagib, Fahim Ahmad, Mamadou Baillo Bah, Amin Jouadi, Abdulraker Ouchrov, and Abdelfahim Zahir first listed the places that made the biggest impression on them since they arrived in the city, the places they visit every day, their favorite places, and the places that symbolize France. After initial research, the six participants engaged in dialogue with Alexandre Girkinguel and shot the landscape photographs using an 8x10-inch large-format camera. All participants printed contact sheets of their own photographs and created captions in their native language.
