Alchemist Tarot Book
An artist book by Estonian artist Julia Valisava.
"This work comes in a very small edition of 22 copies, in keeping with the number of major arcana in the tarot deck. Each book has a different color back cover and is bound in an open binding sewn with silk thread. The facing pages have a red border. For design reasons, I decided to stitch each spread, because otherwise the border would not be uniform on all sides (it would be impossible to make this border uniform if I had sewed several sheets at once and then trimmed them further). For the same reason, all pages are trimmed by hand. The Alchemist Tarot also has symbols, some of which I embroidered by hand. That is why every edition is slightly different and every one is special. The book contains a description of the project and a fortune-telling card printed on a different type of paper. ”─ Julia Borissova
Hand-bound and embroidered, limited to 22 copies, signed and numbered by the artist.
*"Major Arcana" refers to the 22 cards with allegorical illustrations that make up the 78 cards in a deck of Tarot cards. "Arcana" originally meant "desk drawer," and referred to "things hidden in the drawer," and then came to mean "secret" or "mystery." It is said to have been a word that began to be used around the 19th century, when Tarot cards began to be seen as mysterious.
