Landscape Manual || is a continuation of Kono’s sculptural artist book and catalogue first self-published in June 2024, following his solo exhibition at IACK in April of the same year. The original Landscape Manual was conceived as an installation piece—a collection of fragmentary images inviting viewers to freely connect them, allowing individual landscapes to emerge in the act of looking.

While this new work uses the same photographs, paper stock, and layout as its predecessor, it is not an updated version of the original. Instead, it reimagines the material through subtle but decisive changes in format. The folded elements that characterised the previous edition are absent here. Maintaining the A5 size, Kono has introduced physical cuts into the printed images.

Each of the 50 copies is uniquely constructed, with cut photographs that literally rise from the page like elements in a pop-up book—revealing the physical depth and spatial dimension within the book’s structure. Unlike the earlier volume, which was designed to be taken apart and stood up, this edition is hand-sewn by the artist, creating a fixed but intimate form.

Kono’s approach—embracing variation and chance through repetition—reveals how even minute shifts in form can meaningfully alter the way images are received. The result is a light yet profound meditation on transformation and perception.
