The Minute You Have a Minute by Coco Capitán

A collection of works by Spanish artist Coco Capitan.

Renowned for restoring historic buildings, the Belmond Luxury Hotel Group is currently collaborating with some of the world's leading contemporary photographers to create destination-specific portfolios, carefully pairing each artist with the personality of the selected hotel. Coco Capitan has photographed the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express in Spring 2023 and Winter 2024.

Capitan does not like planes. Instead, he prefers classic modes of transport: cruisers, yachts, vintage cars and, of course, the quintessential train journey. That is why, when he was invited to photograph the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express with its original 1920s carriages and historic route throughout Europe, Capitan could not refuse. Inside the carriages of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, Capitan took his most instinctive approach. In this series, the relationships he forges with the crew are interchangeable with the existing bonds he has with the friends who join him on the journey. The images range from playful snapshots to contemplative moments. Capitan's photographs and the series title remind us that, even amidst the glamour, the pilgrimage is as important as the destination. This new reality is fleeting and will soon become someone else's.
