A collection of works by Oslo-based artist Mariken Krame.
This is an artist's book consisting of photographs and text. The photographs capture the grasslands and various wild plants picked from the mountainside area of the mountain farm "Rye", located at an altitude of 900 meters at the back of Lake Mæssee, the tenth largest lake in Norway. The texts are fragments of a larger story, and they tell of past memories evoked by the author's last days with his mother and the last night he spent with her as she lay dying. Each text is numbered, just like the photographs, and is named after each plant. The design and references of the book recall the way plants are depicted in illustrated books and herbariums. On the other hand, the photographs can also be understood in reference to the vanitas motif, a genre of still life that recalls the inevitability of death and the transience of life.
The cover is made of original handmade paper made from the flowers and plants featured in the book. Limited to 300 copies. Signed and numbered by the artist.
