Landscape Manual ─ Yukihito Kono
An artist’s book by Japanese artist Yukihito Kono, inviting viewers to freely connect fragmented images and form their own landscapes.
Landscape Manual is composed of photographs made in Yamanaka Onsen, Kaga City, Ishikawa, between 2020 and 2024, together with installation views from Kono’s solo exhibition of the same title held at IACK. Like the exhibition, the book dismantles the familiar image of Yamanaka as a typical hot-spring town, encouraging viewers to connect the photographs through their own pathways and associations.
Its design remains open to multiple modes of viewing: the pages can be folded in different ways, with the direction of the folds reversed, stood upright like a sculpture, or rearranged and recomposed separately. In this way, the book becomes a format that is not fixed, but continually reactivated through the viewer’s handling.
