Landscape Manual II ─ Yukihito Kono (Signed)
An artist’s book by artist Yukihito Kono, in which slight changes in format transform the same images into an entirely different work.
Landscape Manual II is a sequel to Landscape Manual, the sculptural artist’s book/catalogue self-published in June 2024 following Kono’s solo exhibition at IACK in April of the same year. Yet this sequel is not an updated version of the same subject. Using the same photographs, paper and layout as the earlier book, it develops into a completely different work through changes in format alone. The folding element that defined the previous volume has been removed, while the A5 format remains intact; instead, the photographs are cut by hand, introducing a new sense of three-dimensionality.
All 50 copies were made as unique variations, with cut-out images literally rising from the page like a pop-up book. In doing so, they reveal the physical space and depth latent within the book itself. Unlike the earlier work, which could be taken apart and displayed upright, this volume is hand-sewn by the artist.
Kono’s practice often draws on repetition to generate difference and chance, and this work lightly demonstrates how even subtle changes in specification can significantly alter both the image and its reception.
Limited edition of 50 handmade copies. Hand-signed and numbered by the artist.
