La scomparsa degli sciapodi by Mark Manders

Roma Publications

An artist book by Dutch artist Mark Manders.

La Scomparsa Degli Sciapodi (The Vanishing of the Skiapods) is a book of historical images of the Skiapods. The word "Sciapod" (also spelled Sciapode, Skiapod, Sciapod) comes from the Greek compound "skia-podes", literally meaning "shadow feet". Throughout history, Skiapods have appeared and disappeared in many cultures and folklore. They are generally depicted or painted as having one large foot and the habit of sleeping on their backs during the heat of the day, sheltering themselves from the sun in the shade of their feet. For more than 20 years, Mark Manders has been collecting and secretly working on various images of Skiapods as part of his work Room With All Existing Words (2005-2022). The book is a performable work as a magic book, where the illustrations appear in color the first time, become black and white the second time, and finally disappear.

This is Roma Publications' 431st publication. Designed by Mark Manders and Simon Brutinck. Includes instructions for the magic trick.
