წვიმა RAIN by David Horvitz
An artist book by American artist David Horvitz.
In the Georgian language, there are as many as 64 different words to describe rain. Working in collaboration with Tbilisi-based curator Elene Abashidze, Horvitz collected these terms into a glossary that captures the subtle distinctions in how rain can fall from the sky. At the same time, this project quietly reflects on the loss of linguistic and ecological diversity brought about by the climate crisis.
Produced on the occasion of the exhibition The Palace of Concrete Poetry, held in Tbilisi from September 9 to October 9, 2022, this book presents one word per page. Each entry features the Georgian word set vertically in large type―like raindrops falling across the page―accompanied by a Latin phonetic transcription and a short English description of the specific type of rain.
