(Mint) Cover to Cover by Michael Snow
An artist book by Canadian artist Michael Snow.
Cover to Cover was originally published in 1975 as part of a series produced by the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Curated by Kasper König and Benjamin Buchloh, the series also included books by Michael Asher, Dara Birnbaum, Jenny Holzer, Donald Judd, Claes Oldenburg, Martha Rosler, and Yvonne Rainer, and is now regarded as a legendary publication programme known only to those deeply familiar with the field.
This edition is a long-awaited reprint published by Primary Information and Light Industry in New York. Each spread presents photographs taken from the front and back of a figure, creating a film-like sequence as the pages are turned. Yet the book does not simply record the passage of time: duplicated images, reversals, and visual disruptions appear throughout, revealing Snow’s experimental approach to expanding the relationship between the moving image and the book form. Once the reader opens the book, they are drawn into its labyrinthine structure—only to find themselves eventually pushed back out through the door they entered. A truly singular artist book.
Limited first edition of 2,500 copies. Out of print.
