A collection of essays edited by American artist Tom Lloyd.

Published in 1971, the book was originally thought to be a critical response to the Contemporary Black Artists in America exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art. As he points out, it was not a mere criticism, but developed into "a clear affirmation of black art philosophy as interpreted by eight black artists."
