(Imperfect) The Nest by Lynn Alleva Lilley
A collection of works by American photographer Lynn Areva Lilly.
Around 2016, Lynn Areba Lily began to walk regularly in the woods around Sligo Creek near her home. During her meditative walks, she observed and photographed many small details: the flickering winter light, the tiny vines of the climbing plants that twine, the dead winter grass, the new greenery of spring. She also encountered deer, birds, cicadas, snakes, turtles, and many other animals that inhabit this land along the stream. In June 2022, an accident severely limited her movement. However, once she was able to move freely again, she returned frequently to one of her favorite places near the forest and the stream: the stormwater pond. Looking deeply into the pond and photographing it, her work gradually changed. What makes her photography special is her ability to transcend mere observation. She succeeds in evoking something that cannot be directly perceived by the senses, and the reader becomes part of the place and connects with the vegetation and fauna throughout this book.
First edition limited to 1,000 copies.
