KARMA by Óscar Monzón
A collection of works by Spanish photographer Óscar Monzón.
Monzón began a large-scale project in Madrid between 2009 and 2013 on the relationship between drivers and their cars. Most of the photographs included in this book are unedited, and were taken secretly, without the drivers' knowledge. Sociologist Luc Boltanski used the term "Body Car" to argue that the car, the only object that completely absorbs us and that we can control from the inside at our will, creates a private space within a public space, allowing us to have the most private experiences. Monzón challenges this idea with a series of photographs that violate the enclosed space, capture the landscape with a flash, and ignore the privacy of the car's driver.
Winner of the 2013 Paris Photo Aperture First book award.
