もうあと数時間もすると、2025年も終わります。 皆さんにとってはどのような一年でしたか？ 店主は個人としてもIACKとしても、「外に出向く」ことを目標に動いていたため、IACK店頭での展示企画本数は例年より若干少なくなりました。しかしその分、より多くの方に直接本を届けられたのではないかと思います。 作品集に関しては、取り扱いの有無に関わらず、今年も多くの写真集を手に取りました。ブックフェアにも例年以上に出向いたので、累計で何冊に目を通し、手に取ったのかはまったく分かりません。 では今年も簡単にではありますが、IACKに入荷した本の中で特に印象に残った写真集を振り返りながらご紹介します。 DistributionDaniel SheaPublished by MACK ダニエル・シェアと MACK。2010年代の写真シーンを代表する写真家と出版社による本書は、時代の節目を感じさせる見事な一冊でした。 本作は、「森を撮るとはどういうことか」という問いを起点に制作された作品であり、断片的な写真、あるいは全体を写したとしても、物事の一部しか語り得ないという写真メディアの性質を受け入れた上で、現代アメリカの都市像に迫ります。 統計的に「最もアメリカ的」とされる女性のポートレートで幕を開け、断片的な都市のイメージ、静物、グリッド状のレイアウト、コラージュなど、写真集表現におけるあらゆる技法が駆使されています。写真の強度だけを見れば、もっと薄い造本でも成立するでしょう。しかし、執拗な反復やシークエンスによって、鑑賞に時間をかけること自体が重要になっており、そのためにこの仕様に落ち着いたのだと感じます。 現代における写真、イメージ、印刷物、生成画像、そしてリアリティーとは何か。最後に収録された小説も本作に一層の深みを与えています。年内にレビューを書く予定でしたが間に合わず……1月には改めて記事をまとめるつもりです。まだお持ちでない方には、今年、そして一時代の総括として、ぜひ手に取っていただきたい一冊です。 通販ページはこちらhttps://www.iack.online/products/distribution-by-daniel-shea?_pos=50&_sid=69e3c36a3&_ss=r Vertical ShiftMarte AasPublished by Multipress 今月、店頭ではノルウェー人写真家リーナ・バーマ・ロッケンと、写真家／映像作家のマルタ・オースによる展覧会を開催しました。ふたりは作家活動と並行して Multipress というアーティストラン出版社を運営しており、本作も自らのレーベルから出版されています。実は Multipress は、IACK を立ち上げた8年前に最初にコンタクトした出版社でもあります。そのきっかけは、当時店主が参加していたアーティストブックのグループ展で、同じく展示されていたオースさんのアーティストブックでした。 振り返ってみると、これまでオースさんの作品は、映像作品のキャプチャであったり、映像とセットであったりと、写真が全面的に主役になることは少なかった印象があります。本作は明確に「写真作品」として制作されており、彼女の高い写真技術と個性が際立っています。アーカイブ写真を素材として扱うバティア・スーターの作品を想起させるように、場所性や時代性を示す要素を排除した写真は、アーカイブのようでありながら強い作家性を感じさせます。 写真の上下左右をあえてばらばらの向きで収録するレイアウトは、一枚の写真に対する固定的な読解を拒んでおり、視覚的な驚きとともに、写真を読む面白さの原点にも立ち返らされます。ブルーのゴムバンドで綴じた装丁も良い佇まいです。 通販ページはこちらhttps://www.iack.online/products/vertical-shift-by-marte-aas?_pos=34&_sid=69e3c36a3&_ss=r ODaniel Reuter and Umihara ChikaraPublished by Roma Publications / Arts Council Luxembourg 今年開催された大阪・関西万博。ルクセンブルク館では、プログラムの一環として、ルクセンブルク出身の写真家ダニエル・ロイターと、日本人写真家・海原力による展覧会が行われました。本書は、その展覧会に合わせて、オランダの Roma Publications から刊行された写真集です。 一枚一枚の写真に派手さはありませんが、それこそがふたりが見た均質的な湾岸地域の風景であり、その均質さを表現するために、撮影における取捨選択が徹底されています。何より本書を特徴づけているのが、同じ写真をモノクロとカラーで反復させるブックデザインでしょう。本という形式だからこそ成立する写真表現であり、さすが Roma Publications と言わずにはいられない手腕です。ランドスケープ写真集の可能性を切り拓く、見事な一冊だと思いました。...
