Weight by Michaël Borremans
A collection of works by Belgian artist Michaël Borremans.
Borremans, known for his absurd and eerie drawings and enigmatic paintings, worked as a photographer/graphic designer until his 30s. At the Berlin Biennale in 2005, he presented his first video work as the most important work that filled the exhibition room. The work is closely related to his two-dimensional works in terms of form and subject matter, gradually creating an oppressive atmosphere with delicate camerawork. Borremans either fixed points or slowly zoomed in to focus on specific details of landscapes, body parts, faces, or clothing. Who the characters are and what they do is never revealed. Like his paintings, these images strike a delicate balance between a clear, everyday reality and a bizarre dream world.
