Art Paper Editions

A collection of works by Dutch artist Ruth van Beek.

The author creates collages and books based on the materials he has collected, and the random images respond to each other as if they were having a conversation. Most of them are clipped from old manuals, and there are books designed as tools to help us understand, and books that give us advice about things that are a part of our daily lives, and how to do something right. The hand that is showing is mainly in the photo. Hands digging soil, making dolls, arranging flowers, cooking... Images of our daily activities appear and disappear. By focusing on these acts and removing them from her original context, the author stirs our imagination and evokes a feeling of uneasiness and discomfort.

In the hands of the author, the "human hand" that played a supporting role in the manual begins to move, the object becomes a character, and the abstract form comes to life. Hundreds of images and experiments from the author's archives are brought together in this book. Those who used to explain how to do something, now produced manuals for creating new works.
