Reality Check: Recent Developments in British Photography and Video

The British Council Visual Arts Publications

Exhibition catalogue published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name held at The Photographers' Gallery in London from October 24 to November 24, 2002.

Curated by singer-songwriter and curator Kate Bush and Photographers' Gallery director Brett Rogers, the exhibition is the first joint project between the British Council and Photographers' Gallery. Through the work of 16 British artists who share a "belief in the camera's ability to transform real-life experience into a poetic realm, whether through its representation or visual reproduction, or through its meticulous observation and relentless documentation," the exhibition explores the state of British photography and videography in the wake of the "Cool Britannia" era of the 90s.

From 2002 to 2003, the exhibition travelled to Slovenia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Poland and Latvia.
