Missing Buildings by Thom and Beth Atkinson
A collection of works by British photography duo Tom and Beth Atkinson.
75 years after the London Blitz, Tom and Beth Atkinson have created this book to archive the physical and psychological landscape of London during the Second World War. The book is a collection of photographs they took over six years of looking at the mysterious gaps left in the streets of London. These are traces of the destruction and damage caused by the bombings between 1940 and 1945, some of which clearly show the previous damage, while others are barely visible. However, some were not destroyed by bombs but by urban development. The pair play with notions of myth and imagination, and this ambiguity creates illusions of the past in the architecture of the modern city.
First edition limited to 600 copies, out of print.
