The photographs, selected by the photographers themselves, show how they broke with conventional notions of beauty and fashion photography in the early 1990s, using ordinary home corners, vintage clothing, and unconventional models that did not fit the typical beauty mold. These decadent images, coined "grunge photography" after a music genre that became popular in the United States around 1989, became representative of the new fashion of the decade. The images also show how the scope and distribution of influence expanded with the increase in magazine circulation and the rise of the Internet, while the distinctions between editorial and advertising, photography and fine art, and commercial style became blurred.
