Chose Commune

A collection of works by French photographer Vasantha Yogananthan.

This book is the first of a seven-volume series in which the author reinterprets the ancient Indian epic poem "Ramayana" in a modern way. Since 2013, Yogananthan has been following the path of "Ramayana" and has traveled through India, Nepal and Sri Lanka for seven years. He spoke to local people along the way and took photos with them, inspired by "Ramayana". The first chapter of this book depicts the beginning of the story, telling the story of the young days and growth of Rama and Sita, who do not know each other yet but are destined to meet and fall in love. The illustrations in this book are "Madhubani paintings", which are said to have originated from those commissioned by Sita's father to be made at the wedding of Rama and Sita in the story, and were originally created by Indian artists Mahalaxmi & Shantanu Das.
