An artist book by Dutch artist Mark Manders and poet Marije Langelaar.

Three rodents hang by their tails beneath a beam on the façade of the Winapoint Building on Kruisplein, at street sign height. Like the animals, the beam is made of bronze but painted to resemble wood. The sculpture is part of a larger ongoing project by Manders, Self-Portrait as a Building, which he began in 1986.

Manders published a newspaper and had it delivered door-to-door to coincide with the unveiling of the sculpture. The publication included poems and photographs that represented temporary interventions in the public realm. It also featured a portrait of Angus Taggart, a 15-year-old English boy. Distributed on Angus’s 15th birthday, the newspaper tapped into his imagination, suggesting that he was the author of the sculpture.

In this way, Angus becomes a double for Manders. Mark Manders—the artist figure that exists solely within a fictional world—is himself a double of the real person Mark Manders. His work comprises physical manifestations of thoughts and moments from this imaginary realm.

This is Roma Publications’ 26th title. Limited edition of 100,000 copies.
