Plants, Midstream of Tama River, Winter is an artist’s book by Japanese photographer Daisuke Yokota.

The book features photographs of the midstream area of the Tama River and the plants that grow naturally there, subjects Yokota has continued to photograph in recent years. Using a large-format 4×5 camera, he worked directly with the winter vegetation and surrounding landscape of the riverbank.

Whereas Yokota’s earlier practice often involved transforming photographic materials through reproduction, degradation, and darkroom processes, this series turns its attention to the distance that emerges between observing a subject and seeing it through a camera. Exploring the relationship between the artist looking at the plants and the camera translating them into photographs, the book captures the winter landscape of the Tama River.
