To celebrate the publication of photographer Kono Yukito's new book, "And Then," IACK is holding the exhibition "And Then ─ Poetics of Transformation in Artist Books."
Kono has always used photography, a medium closely linked to the past, to attempt to make viewers aware of the present time that passes when they stand in front of his work. In this work, too, his gaze is not directed at nostalgia for "what was once there," but at "what has been lost since."
This exhibition will feature eleven books that Kono has used as reading materials at art book fairs and exhibitions around the world between 2012 and the present. The books, sun-damaged, torn and stained, are the physical embodiment of a time gone by, allowing visitors to see the effects of material transformation and how Kono's practice has developed.
In addition to the new book "And Then", edition posters based on the book and some of the previous works will also be on sale at the venue.
