This time, IACK will be holding a small feature titled "Photographs and Words."

This project aims to find clues for thinking and talking about photographs and photographic works that are familiar to us. This is the first time that we have featured "Shashin Souzuki," a photography magazine published by photographer and photography critic Hiroshi Oshima from 1980 to 1986.

Since its first issue, "Photographic Equipment" has invited critics, commentators, and photographers from various fields to each issue to discuss the special feature theme through photography. The cross-disciplinary texts are valuable records that reflect the times, but can still be read as relevant today. Although the magazine has devoted almost no space to introducing works, it has introduced important works such as Takuma Nakahira's "The Origin of Photography 1981," Seiichi Furuya's "AMS," and Yutaka Takanashi's "Tokyoites 1978-1982."

In his essay for issue 12, philosopher Koji Taki talks about the fun and difficulty of discussing photography in the modern era,"Because it spreads beyond the boundaries of expressive genres and permeates culture and everyday life, penetrating into our everyday lives in particles so minute that they are barely noticed, and is found constituting the semiosis in which we live, the perspective of discourse must also be broadened beyond questions of genre."We believe this stems from the fact that

Nearly 40 years have passed since that remark, and we live in an age in which photography is increasingly floating about as something unconscious. What does it mean to think about photography, or to think through photography? Why not get a glimpse of the fascinating nature of this subject through this project?
