Primary Information

Ilona Granet, Donna Henes, Barbara Kruger, Ingrid Sischy, Diane Torr, Martha Wilson ) were blurring the lines between performance art and live music, screaming, screaming, singing and stomping in New York's new wave and no wave scenes. Reflecting the chaos and transience of the time, the band broke up in 1982, but no records were made. This is a comprehensive compilation of their all-too-short career, featuring 21 songs recorded from the band's live performances from 1979-1982.

DISBAND was founded in 1978 by Martha Wilson, Daile Kaplan and Barbara Ess. Kaplan and Es were members of influential downtown punk/no wave bands, but Wilson, hinting at her own lack of musical training, took this "female concept" within New York's no wave scene. formed an art punk band. Although the group started with standard instruments, they focused on their voices, harmonies, and physical percussion (handclaps, footsteps, etc.) as the foundation for witty, humorous and intellectually biting songs. , immediately abandoned them. The group reunited in 2008 with “WACK! Art and the Feminist Revolution” organized by MoMA PS1, and continues its international activities.
