A new stare by Nakahira Takuma
A collection of works by Japanese photographer Takuma Nakahira.
After working with Provoke, Takuma Nakahira published For the Words to Come in 1970, and subsequently published important texts and photographs, including Why a Botanical Encyclopedia (1973). However, in 1977, during a party at his home, Nakahira fell into a coma due to acute alcohol poisoning. When he woke up, he had lost some of his memory and linguistic ability. This book is the first photo book produced after that, and the first collection of works that gives a sense of the full-scale implementation of the philosophy stated in Why a Botanical Encyclopedia. Although monochrome photographs were still included at this time, unlike For the Words to Come, the motifs can be clearly seen throughout the book by using a tripod to prevent blurring even at night. Nakahira, who rejected poetic elements, entered a world of ordinaryness and the realm of extreme photography.
