For this volume, Stefanie Moshammer photographed the Eastern & Oriental Express in 2023, capturing the beauty of the legendary train as it winds its way through Malaysia’s breathtaking landscapes.

Moshammer’s work presents a delicate and personal perspective on places and subjects while exploring stereotypes and cultural myths. She combines fiction and subjective narratives with research-based approaches, bringing to light themes of social dynamics and human relationships, and each time offering a unique and unexpected approach. Drawn by her curiosity for the unknown, she was captivated by the journey of the Eastern & Oriental Express, which links Singapore with Malaysia’s tropical rainforests and historic towns. The legendary train, with its luxurious interiors and old-world charm, offers guests a reimagined sense of adventure and elegance.

Combining a wide range of visual elements—stills from short videos shot on her iPhone, cropped, blurred, and pixelated screenshots found online—Moshammer gives her work a dreamlike texture and timeless atmosphere. While highlighting the intricate details of the train, her images guide viewers into a poetic world that transcends the experience itself.
