The two returned to their native Midwest, to the Ozarks, where local folklore tells of a floating ball of light that appears on the Devil’s Promenade. Residents have long believed in its presence and continue to seek it out. This natural path, rich with wilderness, is also a place where wanderers come searching for salvation or simply to escape the boredom and gloom of rural life.

Blending portraits with an archive of mythic and folkloric tales, the book offers a delicate, mystical, and tender depiction of photographers returning home while simultaneously revealing the harsh realities of life in rural America.
